Coronavirus Update - June 2

Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest and most accurate updates during this very fluid and ever-changing period. Our goal with the information provided below, is to give you, at a high-level, a current overview of the most heavily impacted regions. 
 
The Government of India Ministry of Home Affairs released additional guidelines regarding the country’s phased reopening strategy of non-containment zones. Beginning June 8, Phase I includes the reopening of places of worship, hotels, restaurants and shopping centers. Phase II, which is currently scheduled to go into effect in July will allow schools and colleges while Phase III, likely to begin in August, will allow international travel, metro rail, theatres, sports, bars and similar places to reopen for business. The areas the continue to be deemed containment zones will remain under lockdown until June 30 and only essential activities are permitted. Social distancing and face coverings are required in public places, workplaces and during transport.  

Americas 

  • Ontario International Airport has an average of 37 daily departures scheduled in June, up from 24 in May but a decrease of 46 percent compared to June 2019.
  • Increased e-commerce volumes in the US during the pandemic have put a strain on the US Postal Service network. Staffing shortages and backlogs are slowing deliveries, particularly in hard-hit areas.

United States – 1,811,277 confirmed cases, 458,231 (25%) recovered, 105,192 deaths
Brazil – 526,447 confirmed cases, 211,080 (40%) recovered, 29,937 deaths 

EMEA

  • Saudi Arabia has extended the suspension of International and domestic passenger flights. Freighters are permitted and SAUDIA and Saudia Cargo are working together to haul cargo on passenger aircraft.
  • Munich International Airport (MUC) plans to increase flight operations over the next several weeks, increasing passenger and cargo capacity.
  • Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague (PRG) has added additional flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Tirana International Airport (TIA) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA).
  • French authorities are requiring cross-border drivers and passengers to carry a new document confirming they are coronavirus negative.

Russia – 423,186 confirmed cases, 186,602 (44%) recovered, 5,031 deaths 
United Kingdom – 277,738 confirmed cases, 1,221 (0.4%) recovered, 39,127 deaths
Spain – 239,638 confirmed cases, 150,376 (63%) recovered, 27,127 deaths 
Italy – 233,197 confirmed cases, 158,355 (68%) recovered, 33,475 deaths 

APAC 

  • Intra-State and inter-State movement of goods is permitted throughout India without permission, approval or e-permit.
  • The Philippines has resumed a limited number of international and domestic flights.

India – 199,785 confirmed cases, 96,534 (48%) recovered, 5,612 deaths

* Chicago, Denver, Atlanta and New York City airports are operational for cargo, but staffing reductions are impacting efficiency. No freighters are flying in Denver as a result of state government restrictions. Los Angeles and San Diego operating with restricted operations, cargo movement impacted.
** Restricted operations in India are impacting cargo flights; freighters are operating with reduced capacity.  Customs of non-essential goods have resumed subject to availability of Custom’s officers.

United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 06.02.2020 

The overall US Truck volumes continue to increase and are edging closer to pre-COVID levels although remain well below 2019 levels. Dry van volumes which bottomed out at 42.6 percent of normal levels on April 24 have recovered 90.6 percent as of June 1. Since bottoming out in mid-April the refrigerated and flatbed segments have recovered 75.7 percent and 62.9 percent respectively.  

  • Rates within most US markets are currently at normal or below normal levels however areas that may see an increase are:
    • Loads with an origin of Oregon, California, Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana, New York, and Connecticut.
    • Loads with a destination of Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Montana, North Dakota, Texas, Indiana, Kentucky and Georgia.
