COVID-19 Calls for Reflecting on Supply Chain

At times like this, when practically everything shuts down, it hits home that the essential industries, food, fuel, medical, and emergency services are still and must be operational. This requires the supply chain from manufacturing to transportation to final distribution to be operational.

Suppliers, forwarders, brokers, customs, carriers, third and fourth-party logistics companies are more crucial than ever in keeping the supply chain going. We, as people seldom realize how critical the supply chain industry is in keeping our populace supplied with fuel, food, as well as medical assistance and sanitation.  Imagine if this chain broke down or was seriously interrupted - no food, no gas to get anywhere or to receive emergency help from EMS units. The current state of our nation and that of the world is in a lull. The situation, however, could be much worse if it resulted in a worldwide shutdown.

I am reminded as I look out my window or take a ride and see all the LTL, TL, and local carriers and couriers on the road making their deliveries that the supply chain is working and that essential services are being provided to all of us in need.

Let us be thankful that we are not facing the worst scenario and be proud of the companies that are doing their part, providing basic and essential services to keep our country and, indeed the world operational and safer.
